Ask these before you hand over the bike
- What exactly is wrong, and how did you find it? A good mistri can explain it in simple words.
- Can the problem be fixed, or does the whole part have to be replaced?
- Is the new part new or used, and which make is it?
- Will you tell me the full price before you start, and call me if it changes?
Reading the quote
Ask for the price of the part and the price of the work separately. If the quote is one big number, you cannot compare it with another mistri. Prices change with the bike model, the part and the city, so we do not give a fixed figure here. Getting a second opinion before an expensive replacement is normal and sensible.
Before you agree to a new battery or controller
- Ask what test showed the battery is weak. A loose connector, a bad charger or low tyre pressure can look like a weak battery.
- Ask to see the old part after it is taken out.
- Keep the bill or a message that names the part, so you can show it if the same fault returns.
- Ask in advance whether the work comes with any warranty, and get what they promise in writing or in a message.
