Note when it happens
A new noise or jerk is easier to fix when the mistri knows exactly when it happens: only when starting, only uphill, only when the bike is hot, or all the time. Write this down before you visit. If the bike cuts out in traffic or the noise keeps getting louder, stop riding it.
Safe checks you can do yourself
- Switch the bike off. Lift the wheel and spin it by hand. A scraping sound is often a brake pad or mudguard rubbing, not the motor.
- Check that the brake levers fully release. A brake that stays slightly on makes noise and makes the motor feel weak.
- Check the tyre pressure and that the wheel nuts are tight.
- Look at the cables and connectors near the motor. Just look: if any are cut, pulled out or loose, don't ride and don't pull on them.
When to see a mistri
Don't open the motor or controller yourself. They hold live wiring and the battery is connected to them, so a wrong move can damage the bike or hurt you.
- Grinding or clicking from inside the motor.
- The bike jerks or stops suddenly, then works again.
- A burning smell, or the motor or controller is too hot to touch. Switch off at once and stop using the bike.
- The display shows an error code. Write it down or take a photo.
